In just a few years, physical shopping has undergone a major transformation.Today, most retailers have developed a multi-channel strategy. As a result, both large and small physical stores have set up online sales sites. On the other hand, the major e-commerce players have also invested in the development of physical spaces, with the aim of offering their customers a real-world experience. As consumer habits evolve, so too must the retail industry. In recent years, most retailers have rethought their approaches to satisfy the many expectations expressed by consumers.

In today's physical retail environment, special attention must be focused on the visitor experience. The act of buying is no longer aimed solely at satisfying a material need. In addition to offering products and their availability, retailers must now integrate a range of services, enabling consumers to experience shopping as a moment of leisure.

In today's physical retail environment, special attention must be focused on the visitor experience. The act of buying is no longer aimed solely at satisfying a material need. In addition to offering products and their availability, retailers must now integrate a range of services, enabling consumers to experience shopping as a moment of leisure.

Offering places that make you want to be seen

This trend is especially apparent in shopping centres, which offer a wide range of entertainment, events, dining options and other services. The aim is to offer a range of moments that cannot be enjoyed online. Recently, the managers of City Concorde decided to open a bowling center in the heart of the shopping center. This new offer, by attracting a new clientele, should benefit all the retailers on site.
The aim is to attract visitors and offer them a convivial experience, whether alone or with others. More than ever, retailers need to offer friendly, convivial spaces... where people like to be seen. One of the latest trends in this area is the integration of "Instagrammable" areas into the heart of retail spaces. More and more retailers are setting up spaces where visitors can pose in the midst of original decor and share their shopping moments with members of their online community.

Creating novelty and therefore interest

Major retailers have been quick to see the value of this approach, as have the owners and managers of shopping centres. On one hand, these "instagrammable" locations enrich the visitor's experience, offering them an opportunity to share an original picture with their community. On the other hand, it creates visibility for the brand, generating interest among Internet users, friends, and followers.

In the heart of shopping centers, these "instagrammable" places impress with their originality. In Luxembourg, we've seen shopping center owners and managers create artificial beaches, set up giant cuddly toys for the festive season, or install greenery in the heart of the mall... All of which surprises visitors and makes them want to take photos of themselves in these original environments. Throughout the year, with the approach of winter sports, Halloween, Valentine's Day, the return of spring, Easter, the summer vacations... the decorations evolve, regularly creating novelty and, consequently, interest.

Small gestures make all the difference

This approach is not limited to large shopping centres. It can also be implemented in smaller structures, such as stores, where customers can enjoy a different experience. A small space, with a mirror or a decorative element, is often enough to make customers want to take a picture of themselves, and to encourage them to share their latest purchase with their community.

Beyond that, small gestures, which don't have to be expensive to set up, can often make all the difference. Why not offer free tea for tasting, as Rituals regularly does, or flavored water for refreshment? There's no shortage of ideas in this area.
